Races will go from the youngest age group to the oldest age group; girls, then boys.  Shortly after the last runner in a race crosses the finish line the next race will start.  When we get to the Intermediate and Young age groups, if there are fewer than twenty-six (26) runner and fewer than four (4) teams some or all of these older age groups will be combined.

COURSE DISCRIPTION

There are some pretty good hills; some long and slight, some short and steep.  There is asphalt, gravel, grass, dirt and rock.  There could be some muddy areas, depending on the rain.  No spikes.

USATF MEMBERSHIP

Each runner must be a current member of USATF.  If you do not have a current USATF card you may purchase a membership card at the meet this morning.  The cost of the membership card is $20 and it will be valid through December 31, 2006.

AGE GROUPS/RACE DISTANCES

Please be aware that age groups are determined only by the year in which the athlete was born.  The age of the athlete or the school grade in which the athlete is enrolled has no bearing.  Athletes must compete in their own age group.

Bantam Girls/Bantam Boys (Born 1995 or later)                       3000 meters

Midget Girls/Midget Boys (Born 1993 or 1994)                        3000 meters

Youth Girls/Youth Boys (Born 1991 or 1992)                            4000 meters

Intermediate Girls/Intermediate Boys (Born 1989 or 1990)        5000 meters

Young Women/Young Men (Born 1987 or 1988)                      5000 meters

TEAMS

It takes a minimum of five runners and a maximum of eight runners to enter a team.  All members of the team must be of the same sex in the same age group and all must be registered members on of the same registered club.  There is a Team Entry/Advancement and Declaration Roster that must be filled out and completed before the race starts.  I suggest that you list every member of your club in that age group on that form and , on the ‘Association’ line, check off the runners who will compete in this meet.  If you add or change runners for the next meet those names must be on the form that you turn in at this meet.  This form can be found near the bottom of this information packet.

ADVANCEMENT

The first twenty-five (25) finishers and first three teams in each age group will qualify to the Region  14/Junior Olympics Championships that will take place in Fresno on Sunday, November 27th, 2005.  Runners on a qualifying team who finish in the first twenty-five (25) do not change the top twenty (25).

There are only two ways that an athlete can run in Fresno on November 27th  without having run in Santa Rosa on November 20th:

1 – This applies only to teams that have qualified to run in Fresno.  You may replace runners on your team or you may add runners to your team (maximum is still 8 runners) as long as all of the replaced or added runners were listed on the declaration form that was turned in before PA/JO meet.

2 – This applies only to runners who will compete in the California (CIF) State High School Cross Country Championships in Fresno on November 26th.  Obviously, this can affect only to Youth, Intermediate and Young age group athletes.  All high school athletes will know by November 19th if they have qualified for the California State Meet.  A copy of the California State Meet results will be at the Region 14 meet.  Those California State Meet runners may register for the Region 14 meet on the morning of November 27th.  Teams, and all runners on the team, must still be declared at the PA/JOs on November 20th.

AWARDS

Junior Olympic Medals will be awarded to the first 15 Bantam, Midget and Youth runners and to the first 10 Intermediate and Young runners.  There will be a plaque presented to the winning team in all age groups.

AFTER YOU QUALIFY TO RUN IN THE REGION 14 CHAMPIONSHIPS ON NOVEMBER 27th YOU MUST REGISTER ON NOVEMBER 20th, BEFORE YOU LEAVE SPRING LAKE PARK

The entry fee to the Region 14 Championships is $7/runner.  That money, cash only, must be turned in before you leave Spring Lake Park on November 20th.  You will not have to fill out any more forms as the entry sheet that you turned in for the PA/JO will be forwarded for you.  For your own peace of mind make sure that the information on the form, including the PA/JO results, is correct.

HOTELS/MOTELS

There are many motels and hotels in the area.  Most are along US 101 in Santa Rosa.  All are less than 5 miles from Spring Lake Park.

DIRECTIONS TO THE MEET

FROM US 101: In Santa Rosa head east on Highway 12 to the end of the freeway.  Continue ahead on Hoen Avenue.  Go about two miles and take a left on Newanga which will end at the park.  As soon as you are in the park turn right and go to the parking area.

FROM I-80: Just west of Fairfield, get onto Highway 12 heading east (toward Napa).  Stay on Highway 12, passing near Napa, then through Sonoma.  About 15 miles west of Sonoma, turn left on Los Alamos Road, then right on Melita Road which will become Montgomery Drive to the left.  Go about one mile on Montgomery and turn left on Channel Drive.  Around the first turn, turn right on Violetti Road.  Enter the park on your right and go to the bottom of the hill to park.

FROM I-5 HEADING SOUTH: Go west on Highway 20 near Williams.  After 35 miles turn left on Highway 53, which will soon become Highway 29.  When you get to the bottom of the endless hill, just before you get to Calistoga, turn right onto Tubbs Lane.  When it ends, turn left on Foothill for a very short distance and turn right at the stop sign onto Petrified Forest Road (which will later become Calistoga Road).  Be sure to follow the sign to Highway 12.  About 1 mile after you get to the bottom of the winding hill, turn right on Highway 12.  Go about 1½ miles, turn left onto Mission Blvd.  Turn left on Montgomery Drive and go about 1 mile.  Turn right on Channel Drive.  Around the first turn, turn right on Violetti Road.   Enter the park on your right and go to the bottom of the hill to park.

At the park, be sure to park in a regular parking space.  The PA/JO Meet will be on the west side of the lake so you will have to walk around the lake.
