MINUTES of March 14, 2006 Meeting - Approved unanimously. TREASURER'S REPORT - Approved unanimously the 2005 report - Approved unanimously the 2006 accrual report BACKGROUND CHECKS - Phil Watkins not present (had a track meet conflict) but reported that a finger print check is the best option. - How extensive should check be: county? state? national? - Possible to do our own fingerprinting then send them to be put on file; could be a little as $10 per check for national level. Might need to hire someone to do this. - Info on costs needed for 2007 budget. - Badges need to be made; Charlie Shepard has a program for doing this. 2006 NCAA T&F CHAMPIONSHIPS June 7-10 - Live Friday/Sat. broadcasts - All good to go. - CSUS construction will make for a challenge in 2007, although actual construction will be halted during the meet. GOLDEN WEST INVITATIONAL - Good to go (June 11) - Hammer cage stolen for scrap metal; new one purchased. 2006 CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - GG Park, San Francisco - Co-Director Peanut Harms reported - Sponsors: Asics, Pacific Coast Sportswear, Disney, Balerga socks, AT&F Magazine, Clif - Parking to be at speedway. - Party at Fisherman s Wharf - Anticipating 2500 - International Distance Coaches Clinic on Thurs./Fri. with Asics sponsored athletes; funding assistance to do this from the PA strategic plan budget? 2007 2009 CIF XC Championships - Fresno is giving it up and Northern CA is possible new venue - Need $20,000, a meet director ($1500) and an acceptable course. - Three entities interested: Placer Co. Tourism (no course); Sacramento Sports Commission (Granite Regional Park); Folsom (350 acres on South side of Hwy 50 but might be too slow to get it done). - Other possibilities: De La Salle, San Mateo - Fred Baer: possible Fox broadcast media add-on 2007 2008 INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS - Indoor track construction no new info. - UNR might have track; this might work against PA involvement. STRATEGIC PLAN - Elite Athlete Support o Lee Davenport/James Logan HS T&F Clinic: have the PA support a seminar about post HS/collegiate athletes transitioning into elite athlete status o Twitchell Island Field Athlete Project: Del Valle Homes owners/philanthropists are building a field events center in the Sacramento Delta that will house/support 25 field athletes (training, meets, research, medical, organic farm); ready by August; Suzy Powell in charge of athlete recruiting. - Resources: Board approved George Kleeman s plan to recruit more governance people, officials, coaches; plan needs someone to take charge. - Youth Publicist Vicky Boyd hired and is providing material for web site. - Motion passed: Marketing Committee Chair and PA Athlete Development Coordinator are two positions already in place and described in by-laws. Unanimously approved to post vacancies on web site. - Motion passed: $1500 approved to assist with having a seminar at the James Logan T&F Clinic that will discuss HS/collegiate athletes transitioning into elite athlete status. Stephanie Brown will work with Lee Webb to get this done. - Motion passed: $1500 approved to assist with speakers at the International Distance Coaches Clinic to be held at the XC Nationals. COMMITTEE REPORTS - Membership report by Irene Herman - Youth Committee by Joanne Camargo: PA Championships will be held at Pinole. - Officals by Dick Connors: at the NCAA T&F meet over 60% of the officials are from the PA. - Open T&F by Fred Baer: Championships on Sunday, May 28 at College of San Mateo; athletes register through directathletics.com; good publicity due to opening of new CSM facility; could use more women athletes. - Masters T&F by Mary Woo: PA Championships set for July 1; Ron Richardson and Rich Anderson are the meet directors; register o-line at DirectAthletics.com; $25 for the first event, then $5; $30 for relay. Starter is Joe Harper; extensive email was sent out. - PA Hall of Fame by George Kleeman check criteria and send feedback to George by September 1. NEW BUSINESS - Meets that are poorly run will cause a loss of members to AAU - AAU has a 3-year national level meet at Davis - Need to have quality meets to keep our members MEETING ADJOURNED at 9:29 p.m. Next Meeting: Wednnesday, Setpember 20, 2006, 7:30 pm, Foster City |
