Pacific Association at the
2006 National Junior Olympics
Cross Country Championships

Saturday, December 9th
Spokane, Washington

By the standards of most of us in the Pacific Association, there was more snow and it was a lot colder at the National JOs than what we are used to. But all of the runners in each of the races went through the same conditions.

Of the 1832 finishers 174, or 9.5%, ran for the Pacific Association. Of the 250 individual medals - top 25 in each of the 10 age groups - 22, or 8.8%, were won by our PA runners. We had one first place winner (IG), one second place finisher (IG), one fourth place finisher (YM) and one fifth place finisher (IB). When you realize that there are 57 associations throughout the nation our athletes are well above the average. Last year there were 1968 finishers of which 151 ran for the PA. Please note that these numbers come from the result sheets which list only the finishers. We do not know if any of our signed-up runners failed to start the race or failed to finish the race.

By comparing the winning times with last year you can see what the high snow meant last year. Note that in the 5000m races last year the course was altered (shortened) because of very high snow in a very narrow area.
