Crosby-Helms 2nd at Natl. 100K Championships |
San Francisco's Devon Crosby-Helms, 24, finished second in USATF's National Championship 100-kilometer Road Race today in Madison, Wisconsin, earning automatic selection to Team USA for the World Cup 100-km in the Netherlands next September. Her time of 8:16:41 for the 62-mile race placed her just minutes behind Team USA veteran Julie Udchacon, 36, of Eagle River, Alaska, who won in 8:09:04. The race was Crosby-Helms' first attempt at the distance, in fact her first attempt at any distance longer than 50 kilometers. Earlier this year she won the Napa Valley Marathon and the Jed Smith 50-km, the latter in a course record 3:32:02.
The men's race was won by Greg Crowther, 33, of Seattle in 7:14:31, the
only men's time to qualify for automatic Team USA selection. Runner-up
was another veteran Seattle ultrarunner, Scott Jurek, in 7:32:05.
