RECORDS SET AT PACIFIC ASSOCIATION/USATF YOUTH TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

FOLSOM, Calif. - June 10, 2007 - One U.S. national record and two Pacific  Association/USA Track & Field records were set at the Pacific  Association/USATF Youth Track & Field Championships held on Saturday and  Sunday, June 9 and 10 at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, Calif. The  event served as a superb showcase for many of Northern California's and  northwest Nevada's finest youth talent.

Armand Shyne, age 8, shattered the U.S. national record for the Bantam  Boys (ages 10 and under) division in the turbo javelin on Sunday,  breaking the record with a mark of 135 feet 0.5 inches that bettered the  previous record of 129-1.

Shyne is a member of the 3M Track Club, based in Oakland, Calif., and  guided by Head Coach Will Pittman. Pittman was not surprised by Shyne's  performance.

"He was last year's national champion," Pittman said. The coach went on  to talk about the quality of the young athletes in his program. "The kids  in this program are dedicated, hard-working, and sound. All of them have  desire to succeed. We [the coaching staff] just compliment their wishes."

In addition, on Saturday two Pacific Association records were broken.

Tyler Sorensen, 13,  set a new Pacific Association record in the Youth  Boys (ages 13 and 14) 3,000 meter Race Walk with a time of 15 minutes,  40.29 seconds. Sorensen, who competes for the Diablo Valley Track Club,  won last year's Gold Medal in the 1,500 meter Race Walk at the National  Junior Olympics.

Sasha Wallace, 11,  broke the Pacific Association 400 meter Midget Girls  (ages 11 and 12) record of 59.01 seconds with an impressive time of  58.30. Wallace, like Shyne, is a member of the 3M Track Club.

The two-day event featured track clubs from all over Northern California  and northwest Nevada. Over 1,200 athletes ranging from 5 to 18 years old  participated. Complete meet results will be available on the Pacific  Association web site at www.pausatf.org.

The Pacific Association is the largest member association of USA Track &  Field (USATF). We serve northern California and northwestern Nevada.  USATF is the National Governing Body for track and field, long distance  running, and race walking in the United States.
