Adults vs. Youth at Sac State Track!

by Mary Woo

Wow!  There were kids everywhere!  Nike-Fleet Feet Racing Sacramento hosted the first annual “Challenge of the Ages” Sunday, April 26th at Sacramento State’s Alex G. Spanos Sports Facility.   This dual mini-meet between the Roseville Express Track Club and Fleet Feet Racing provided over 40 local youth athletes a rare opportunity to compete in the same venue where many of their track and field heroes have vied for NCAA titles, USATF National titles, and Olympic team berths.  It was also a great environment in which to reinforce the idea that physical fitness and competitive excellence can be a life-long pursuit.  And for the mostly sub-master and master aged adults, some of whom had either never competed in track and field, or who had not done so in years, it was just plain fun!

“I think the meet was a big success” said Mary Woo, Fleet Feet’s Track and Field Coordinator.  “The kids had fun, the adults did, too, and the parents and volunteers appreciated a meet that ran on time.  I look forward to a rematch next year.”

The Roseville Express brought their “A game” and won the meet handily.  However, both teams turned in some great individual performances, including quite a few personal records and even a couple of Master’s All-American marks.

Nike-Fleet Feet Racing would like to thank the Roseville Express athletes, their parents and coaches, and especially the volunteers from both teams for making this such a super event.  See you next year!
