Two-time U.S. Olympian PattiSue
Plumer will serve as the keynote speaker at the Pacific Association/USA
Track & Field Long Distance Awards Banquet on Saturday, February
6, 2010 in Cupertino, California. Plumer, an icon of U.S. women's
distance running, competed at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South
Korea (3,000 meter event) and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain
(1,500 and 3,000 meters). Her highest Olympic finish was fifth in the
3,000-meter final in Barcelona.
Plumer is a graduate of Stanford
University Law School. While at Stanford, she won NCAA 5,000-meter and
indoor two-mile national titles. During her career, which spanned almost
20 years, she also set U.S. women's national records at 5,000 meters
on the track in 15:00.00 (1989) and on the roads in 15:31 (1986). Both
records were subsequently broken.
While overcoming several career-threatening
injuries and illnesses, PattiSue Plumer established herself as one of
the most outstanding American middle and long distance runners of all
time. She currently resides in Los Altos, California with her longtime
husband, Steven Levere. Plumer currently coaches cross country and track
and field at Los Altos High School.
