Steps to follow when joining, renewing or changing athlete membership
Pacific Association USATF
Membership in USATF is on a calendar-year basis from January 1 to December 31. Any members that join PA/USATF on or after November 1 will have their memberships extended through the next calendar year.
You must register in advance of a competition/championship event as PA/USATF cannot guarantee a membership representative will be present to receive your application on the day of the event.
First Time Member
If you are a new member or renewed with a gap of continuous membership year, Date of Birth Verification must be validated. You need to send in a copy of your current verification to Heike Mansoor at mailto:[email protected] or mail it to Pacific Association Office; 120 Ponderosa Ct.; Folsom, CA 95630. With a few exceptions, we will announce before certain meets that a Membership Committee Representative will be on site to verify Date of Birth with the presentation of the original birth certificate. It will be returned to you immediately upon examination.
1. Read through the Pacific Association (PA)USATF Bylaws to ensure you are willing to abide by all the policy statements.
2. Select a Club to join that provides training and competitions in your area of interest or decide to compete as an unattached athlete (not aligned with any club).
a. Fill
out and submit online application or mail application & fees to Pacific
Association Office;
i. You must use your legal name located on your proof of birth validation – nick names cannot be accepted.
b. For youth members it is mandatory to submit proof of birth validation to Pacific Association office:
i. Only the following forms of verification are acceptable. (1) certified birth certificate; (2) current state drivers license or state ID with picture; (3) current passport with picture; (4) baptism certificate with seal; or, (5) current government identification with picture.
ii. Hospital birth records are not considered a legal document by USATF and therefore not acceptable forms of certification.
4. Membership can be validated by viewing the membership listing on the PA/USATF website under the Members link for Adult Members or for Youth Members.
Renewing Membership
1. By January 1 of each year renew your membership with PA/USATF
a. Fill
out and submit online application or mail it to Pacific Association Office;
b. Cannot change club # at membership renewal. Renew with old club number and then contact Irene Herman @ [email protected] (18 year old & older members) or Tony Williams @ [email protected] (under 18 year old members).
i. NOTE: 18 year old youth athletes competing in the National Junior Olympics must contact Tony Williams @ [email protected]
c. If you are changing clubs you must still wait the 90 day period after the last time you competed for the old club before you can compete with the new club. Follow the steps outlined below to change club membership.
2. If the date of birth verification originally used when you joined PA/USATF expired than you need to send in a copy of your current verification to Heike Mansoor at [email protected] or mail it to Pacific Association Office; 120 Ponderosa Ct.; Folsom, CA 95630.
Changing membership from club to club or to unattached
Once you have competed for a USATF club you may not compete for another USATF club for 90 days. If you want to change clubs you must give written notice to the Pacific Association and compete as “unattached” during those 90 days. Each time you compete for a new USATF club you must restart the 90 day unattached time period.
1. If athlete is 18 years old or older they must submit a change of club membership in writing to PA/USATF Membership Chair Irene Herman @ [email protected] or fax to 415-447-4181 or to the PA office via e-mail to Heike Mansoor at [email protected] or mail it to Pacific Association Office; 120 Ponderosa Ct.; Folsom, CA 95630.
a. Request must include the following: (1) athlete’s name & membership number; (2) reason for requesting the change; (3) current club affiliation (including “unattached”); (4) name of new club you want to be affiliated with or state unattached; and, (5) name of the event/meet, location, and date where you last competed for a club.
b. After reviewing the request the membership chair will either make the change or ask for further information.
c. Allow up to 7 business days for a response. If you have not received any response than resubmit your request.
2. If
athlete is under the age of 18, their parent or legal guardian
must submit a change of club membership in writing to Youth PA/USATF Membership

a. Request must include the following: (1) athlete’s name & membership number; (2) reason for requesting the change; (3) current club affiliation (including “unattached”); (4) name of new club you want to be affiliated with or state unattached; and, (5) name of the event/meet, location, and date where you last competed for a club.
b. After reviewing the request the membership chair will either make the change or ask for further information.
c. Allow up to 7 business days for a response. If you have not received any response than resubmit your request.
3. If athlete is already a member of another USATF club the athlete must wait 90 days from the date of the last USATF sanctioned competition before they can compete for a new club. During this 90-day period an athlete can only compete as an unattached athlete.
4. An athlete can begin to compete for a club if their status is changing from unattached to club without waiting the 90 days once their application for change has been approved.
5. An athlete can begin to compete as unattached immediately.
