FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Fred Baer [email protected] 650-483-3733 Stars Seek More Records At CSM’s Famed Throwing Facilities Sunday In 15K T&F GP Champs.OLY CHAMP BROWN-TRAFTON, AMERICAN RECORD HOLDER KREINER RETURNOlympic discus champion Stephanie Brown-Trafton and American javelin record breaker Kim Kreiner return to their “favorite” California throwing surfaces Sunday afternoon (May 30) for the 2010 Pacific Association USA Track & Field Championships at College of San Mateo. It is the major meet in the PA’s $15,000 Grand Prix competition. Kreiner will be back at the CSM field where she set an American Record of 203 feet, 10 inches in 2006. She has since improved that mark to 210-7 and will be chasing that record on Sunday. The 203-10 at CSM remains the best American throw ever in California! Brown-Trafton has thrown world leading marks from CSM’s elite circle, which captures key bay winds. Her throw of 217 feet, 2 inches (66.21 meters) last year at CSM led the world throughout the season until the very end (Oct. 22) -- and wound-up the world’s No. 2 mark for 2009. It is also the second longest ever legal American throw in California. She continues to chase the elusive American Record of 222-0, set by her rival Suzy Powell-Roos of Modesto in 2007 at the Wailuku, Hawaii, Big Wind meet. Summer Pierson, who has thrown 199-2 already this season, will provide competition. Current USA triple jump leader Erica McLain (46-1 1/2), a Stanford grad, is among the other stars entered in meet. Walk record challenged: The Championships will include a racewalk competition on the CSM track at 10:30 a.m. Tyler Sorensen is seeking the youth national 3,000 meter record. Running events begin at 9 a.m. with the 10,000 meters. The men’s discus throw is at 12 noon, followed by the women’s competition. The men’s javelin throw is at 2 p.m., followed by the women’s event. Triple jump competition starts at noon. --Brown-Trafton and McLain are also schedule to compete on Saturday afternoon at the California Relays at Sacramento City College’s Hughes Stadium. They will earn points in the PAUSATF $15,000 Grand Prix competition at both meets. However double points are awarded at the PA Championships. # # # |
