Fred Zalokar, a Reno, Nevada-based Strawberry Canyon Track Club member ran the recent Boston Marathon in a remarkable time of 2:34.46. what makes this time so remarkable is he is in the 50-54 age bracket and there are only eight Americans in history in this age group who've run faster than Fred.
Also notable at the recent Boston Marathon, Ultramarathon specialist Caitlin Smith (Berkeley, unattached) qualified for the US 2012 Women's Olympic Marathon Trials with plenty of room to spare in a stellar time of 2:41.37.
Also at the Boston Marathon, River City Rebel Kevin Pool of Folsom finished 34th overall in 2:23:03.
Joe Binder, also of the Strawberry Canyon Track Club, smashed the course record by over 20 minutes in winning the PA-USATF 100K championships at the Ruth Anderson Memorial 100K run at Lake Merced in San Francisco on April 23rd. His stellar mark of 7:00.19 ranks him about fifth on the US national list, thereby virtually assuring him of a spot on a team of seven runners with the USA World 100K team headed to the Netherlands in November. I do not have his exact mile or lap splits but Joe was a machine out there. Also of note, runner-up John Olson out of Modesto ran a great albeit unheralded race and finished in a big PR for him in roughly 7 hours, 20 minutes, also under the previous course record.
