Officials Needed for LDR Events

PA/USATF LDR Officials Coordinator Mark Winitz. April 4, 2012 PA/USATF LDR OFFICIALS (and Track Officials who have expressed interest in LDR): The 2012 PA/USATF Long Distance Running Road Grand Prix/Championship series is well underway. And. we need your officiating assistance! Our next two Road Grand Prix events are rapidly approaching (Zippy 5K, San Francisco, April 22) and Pacific TherX 5K 4Play, Portola Valley, May 12). So far, only one official has tentatively volunteered to help out at these two races. Typically, we require a crew of at least four officials at our PA road and cross country championship events to ensure fair competition. In particular, we invite our almost 40 new LDR officials who received their officiating certification in 2011 and 2012 to pick a race and help out. We need "new blood" and you're among our prime candidates. Although many of you compete on our Grand Prix circuits, please pause and take a moment to pick a race or two where you'll help officiate and give back to the sport we all cherish. Remember, all new officials will, if possible, be assigned a mentor (a veteran official) at the races they work to assist you on the job as you as you learn, and apply, new officiating skills. I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind our new LDR officials who certified for the first time this year that, as an "Apprentice" level official you are required to meet minimum officiating obligations if, after two years, you wish to upgrade to Association level. Please refer to the Apprentice level requirements/checklist that I previously sent you. As for our experienced officials who haven't served at a PA/USATF road or cross country Grand Prix event for a while, please take this opportunity to "re-introduce" yourself at our off-track events, freshen up your officiating skills, and meet new folks. The 2012 LDR Road Grand Prix and Cross Country Grand Prix schedules are shown below. Please take this opportunity to commit to an event or two where you can help out, and let me know.
