RR PAs Jenny Hitchings sets pending WR at London Marathon

Posted by on Apr 25, 2023 in Elite Athlete, Masters LDR, Road Racing | 0 comments

Jenny Hitchings has accomplished many things as a runner since turnings 55. She holds 5 American age group records from 5 km to the Marathon. She was the USATF F55-59 Road Runner of the Year in 2018 and 2021. In 2022, she was not only the USATF F55-59 Road Runner of the Year, but she also was the Overall USATF Female Road Runner of the Year and the USATF Masters Athlete of the Year!
Now, she can add a pending World Record to her resume. Last Sunday, at the London Marathon she ran 2:45:27 to smash Krisha Stanton’s existing F55-59 WR of 2:48:06. (The Marathon is the only road racing event that World Masters Athletics recognizes for world records.) Hitchings was also the #2 American woman in the race, beaten only by Open Elite runner Susanna Sullivan, who finished 10th overall.
Jenny turns 60 in July, so Mariko Yugeta’s F60-64 Marathon WR of 2:52:13 and a whole host of American records are probably not long for this world.
