► MTF 2020 USA Masters Games Postponed to 2021 Note: NOT USATF Masters Outdoor Championships
► PA Open-Masters TF Championships postponed – updated 4/7
Unfortunately, our 2020 PA MTF/Open Championships Meet has been postponed until a later date to be determined, per the USATF COVID-19 Working Group recommendation “Suspend all USATF Championship events and all USATF sanctioned events indefinitely.”
Ideally, it will occur with a month of notice, and before our MTF Western Region and National Championships. But these are unusual times, so we are unsure of what will be legally allowed, medically wise, and according to USATF guidelines.
FYI, websites for other PA MTF meets currently say:
- Bay Area Senior Games: “We are re-scheduling the meet to be held Sunday, November 15th.”
- Pride Meet: “We are currently exploring options for holding the Pride Meet later in the summer. Stay tuned for more information.“
- Wine Country 2020 Sr Games: “Due to the Corona Virus Epidemic, the 2020 Games have been cancelled.”
- SG MTF Fest: “Thank you to all the athletes who attended the 2019 4th Annual Sierra Gold Masters and Open Track and Field Festival. We look forward to seeing you again at the event this year.”
Please be safe, keep training and checking the PA/MTF page, and ensure your PA/USATF membership is current since email will be sent when more is known.
Thank you! — Joseph Ols, PA Masters Chair
► YTF YOUTH JUNIOR OLYMPICS CANCELLED
2020 USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Championships cancelled
Indianapolis – The 2020 USATF Hershey National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships to be held in Jacksonville, Florida July 27-August 2 have been cancelled, USATF announced today.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the University of North Florida and its local health authorities have closed its campus through at least July 30. USATF, in conjunction with the youth committee, is exploring possible alternate contingencies for the Junior Olympic athletes once the crisis allows track facilities to open.
The fate of the USATF Youth Outdoor Championships to be held in Miramar, Florida will be determined no later than April 30. The event is scheduled for June 23-28.
For up-to-date information on COVID-19 gathered by USATF’s Working Group, visit USATF.org/covid19.
► PA PA Competitions and Practices after COVID 19
From PA’s Dave Shrock: “I have been in discussion with Dr. Robert Chapman (USATF Associate Director of Sports Science and Medicine & COVID19 Chair), and this is the official USATF verbiage as of now.”
Can clubs conduct practices?
Each association, club coach and local organizer should consult their local health authorities for guidance. A top priority now is health, wellness, and proper behaviors to avoid infection and its spread as we are still within the ‘crisis’ phase of this situation.
For specific guidelines for athletes and coaches who choose to continue training refer to: https://www.usatf.org/covid19/usatf-covid-19-working-group-guidelines-recommendations-and-general-information-on-covid-19
When can we begin to host events?
As the health and safety of all membership are the top priorities now, return to competition is unknown at this time, and the process by which competitions will be deemed safe, (from a public health perspective) to move forward is going to be multi-faceted, and will take time — but it is being discussed by key medical and scientific experts, in consultation with the CDC, USOPC, and multiple other professional sports organizations.
The USATF COVID-19 Taskforce and leadership are assessing event schedules with ramifications frequently.
